Boerne Kendall County Nonprofit Day - August 17, 2024

On August 17th, we join the nation in celebrating National Nonprofit Day, a day dedicated to recognizing the indispensable contributions of nonprofit organizations in our community. This day holds special significance as we celebrate the 500+ nonprofits that work to improve the lives of our residents in Kendall County. From providing essential services to advocating for social change, these organizations are the backbone of our community.

August 17th has been named National Nonprofit Day since 2017, but in 2022, we decided to take it a step further and celebrate on a local level. Since then, we have grown the celebration and awareness surrounding our nonprofits and use it as an opportunity to showcase the diverse ways in which they contribute to our society. From small grassroots organizations to well-established institutions, each nonprofit plays a crucial role in addressing the unique needs and challenges of our community.

With the rapidly growing population in our area, and a fast-moving business environment, it can be difficult to know what services are available to our community and who provides these services. Kendall County Giving Connections has created a website that brings ALL nonprofit organizations, churches, civil organizations and more, from our county, together onto one single platform.  The goal is to create a resource 1. for those wishing to give and volunteer, 2. for those looking to connect with other like-minded organizations, and, most importantly, 3. for individuals and families who have a need for the resources provided by these organization. Be sure to check out their website linked here to see the hundreds of nonprofits in Kendall County, and to learn more about the resources right here in our backyard.

In 2023, in partnership with The Kronkosky Charitable Foundation and Trinity University, The Kendall County Nonprofit Economic Impact Study was launched. Comprehensive research from this study named Kendall County as the #1 most charitable county in Texas, with over $33 million of income coming from contributions and grants alone. These dollars go directly into serving those in need when it comes to human services, education, health care and more.

Supporting Nonprofits goes beyond Nonprofit Day though. The support needed for these organizations to successfully run year-round is major. Volunteers are the lifeline of our local nonprofits. Without their dedication and hard work, many of these organizations may not be able to operate, which is why this day of celebration also serves as a reminder of the importance of community engagement. By volunteering our time and resources, we can support the efforts of these nonprofits and make a tangible difference. Whether you’re looking for a monthly mentoring position, or a fun volunteer activity to do with your family, our local nonprofit members post their volunteer opportunities HERE for the public.

These nonprofits are more than just service providers; they are the heart of our community, driving positive change and addressing critical issues. As we celebrate their achievements, let’s also consider donating, volunteering, or advocating for them year-round, ensuring they have the resources needed to continue their vital work. Join us in celebrating Boerne and Kendall County Nonprofit Day by participating in local events, sharing your experiences with a nonprofit, and finding ways to contribute to their efforts. Together, we can build a stronger, more vibrant community. Here
