Emergency Preparedness
What residents and business owners need to know now to protect against a future disaster
The Greater Boerne Chamber of Commerce continues its third year of Lunchbox Lessons with a class for everyone who lives and/or works in the greater Boerne area. Our subject is Emergency Preparedness and will include information residents and business owners need to know should something unthinkable occur here. The program will be held from 11:30 to 1 p.m. at the Boerne Convention & Community Center on the corner of Plant and Adler on March 15, 2010. Lunch is provided.
Are you ready if
- a tornado rips through the crowded streets of Boerne at lunchtime?
- the H1N1flu blossomed into a worldwide pandemic?
- an 18-wheeler filled with toxic chemicals overturns on the bridge at River Road spilling chemicals into the creek?
- a 747 airplane falls from the sky and sets downtown Boerne on fire?
- a terrorist group attacks San Antonio’s military bases?
- a gas station at a major intersection blows up raining debris over a 10 block area of our downtown business district?
- a busload of prisoners being transported to Huntsville overturns on IH-10 and escapes?
Okay, we have a vivid imagination, but you can be sure no one expected terrorists to fly into the World Trade Center and the recent assault on the IRS building in Austin was unanticipated as well. The flooding of New Orleans is another example of how we might be on our own for a while in the event of an emergency and the importance of having a plan to implement could make the difference between surviving and total disaster.
Mark Mattick, a native Boerne resident representing the Emergency Management Office, will lead the discussion sharing what you need to know and what you need to have on hand in the event of an area-wide disaster. This is information you simply must have.
You can sign up online or give us a call at 830-249-8000. Members pay $15 for the lesson and lunch is included and provided by this month's lunch sponsor Jefferson Bank. Admission for the prospective members is $20, including lunch. Don’t wait to reserve your spot. We expect seating for this class to sell out early. I’m sorry, we won’t be able to invoice for this event. No shows will be billed.
